The Four Seasons-Fall
Back to work again we go
With shovel, rake and garden hoe,
To harvest what we planted then
When summers work and chores began,
We tie the fodder in the shock,
We gather pumpkins in between,
‘Cause soon along comes Halloween.
The hay fields ready for us to mow,
It’s time to reap just what we sow.
Leaves of gold and red and brown
Come floating from each tree to ground.
All except the pine so sturdy,
Awaiting winter’s coat so pretty.
Chill in the air, with sweaters ready
We move forward slow and steady.
Time to gather for Thanksgiving
To offer prayers to God for living.
Snowflakes swirling ‘round the meadow
Across the hill and in each hollow,
We wait for storms to follow.

OCTOBER
If heaven were October
I would not mind to die
And spend my days
In autumn haze
Wandering through the sky.

Fall Approach
A tuft of yellow in the leaves
A touch of chill within the breeze,
A flash of sun, a splash of rain
A hint of gold upon the grain.

In October
We marked our time
With poetry in the woods today,
Cracked parched leaves
Under our feet
As we walked the trail
Arched in October gold,
We gathered green and brown
Mini-chestnuts from an old tree
Ready for logging.
A staccato cawing of crows
In the distance let us know
An unwelcome guest lurked nearby
In a poet’s dream world.
