Evolution

Without pomp or fanfare,
September sweeps quietly
over the mutable
landscape
while nature scatters
her progeny
to the wind;
a subtle voice to
temper
the certainty
that a latent winter
only slumbers.

September Refrain

As the sun sinkslow in the evening sky,
at the ebb of an autumn day,
it seems while nature holds its breath,
Mother Earth takes time to pray.

The orange-pink glow of the setting sun
paints the sky with a pastel hue,
long wispy clouds wattle the sky,
I stand in awe of this glorious view.

The sky is aglow with paintbrush swirls,
a prelude to this September refrain;
I give thanks to God for His blessings
that shower like a refreshing rain.

A hush hangs over the valley,
a squadron of geese sings to me.
I behold God’s awesome artistry,
while my heart hears a melody.

I pause to reflect upon this day
and pray that I’ve given my best.
Sometimes I’m blinded and fail to see
how much I am truly blessed.

As I witness this benediction
of nature’s spectacular show,
I lift my eyes toward the heavens,
God’s presence—I feel and know.

Waiting For Autumn

With days of Summer passing swiftly
We look forward to some cooler days
With little rain for the past few weeks
It's so dry the Sun emits hotter rays

Early days of September are with us
Still it seems like Summer is still here
With days nearly hot as one hundred
Who would think Autumn time is near

With a desert like atmosphere over us
Lawns have turned into a nasty brown
Only an occasional weed we see grow
Not a mower do we see running now

Staying inside an air conditioned home
Is the only way we can stand this heat
I know Autumn will soon come our way
It's a season that is really hard to beat
