Writing a Nonsense Poem requires a sense of humor. Their aim is to amuse and be fun to read. They need no serious interpretation and there are no hidden meanings. They are an exercise in sound and meter.
What If…
Current Mood: Calm
What if…
Said Ms. Peters
To her students on day
Vegetables picked you
Instead of you picking they?
What if the moon
Cried itself out of light
Because it was blue
It had to live in the night?
What if hens laid eggs
That were square not round
Do you think people
Would buy them in town?
What if a fly
Swatted you
Before you swatted him
Would you take it serious
Or think it a whim?
What if you
Like Mr. Toad
Drove your car wildly
Down a dirt road?
What if you dreamed
A great big dream
And it came true
Would you yell and scream?
What if a space ship
With little green men
Came to your house
Would you let them in?
One more what if
And we’ll call it a day
Oh, drat
I forgot what I was going to say!

From A Dream
It was a Lima Bean
I think,
that I picked from
the kitchen sink
then tossed this bean
that I abhor
not too gently
out the door.
It bounced quite harshly
from a stump
and hit a lady
on the ear,
causing chaos
I did fear.
But nonchalant
and quietly she
without a sound
picked that bean
from off the ground,
swiftly wheeled
and hurled that thing
like a pebble
from a sling
at another one, instead
who quickly ducked
and I got “Beaned”
on my forehead!
