Winter, Snow “Pain”

The Heavens have opened,
The snow coming down
Not in only one
But many of earthly town.

Ice being broken
On the streets,
To heavy to thaw
Being in big sheets.

Cars sliding, hitting each other,
Not a pleasant sight,
So I guess we all should
Stay off the streets at night.

I’ve lived many a year
This is my first to see
So much tragedy coming
In January.

Back in the earlier years
We didn’t have TV
To watch day after day
And all of this to see.

It isn’t pleasant at all,
Homes sinking out of sight
In the muddy waters
For families a great fright.

I think of all the little animals,
Filled with awful fear,
But God knows where they are
All prayers for them, He hears.

I’ll be glad when it’s over
Must somehow be a reason,
I’ll be glad when the numbers roll
Into a beautiful Spring season.

Snow

So oft you come in spring and fall
You roar around the mountain wall
You sneak through hills and valleys dim,
You settle on each barren limb.

While you steal your way by night,
The world is gently sleeping,
The barren trees, the frozen pond
Are through this misery creeping.

The dawn is come,
You’ve stopped your run,
But on the meadow lying,
Your happy days are all but gone,
The sun has caused your dying.

A Snowy Day

With silver dollar size snowflakes falling
It seems old man Winter has now arrived
With all of the schools closing for the day
We wonder how us older people survived

Going to school with the snow knee deep
If the bus couldn’t run we would then walk
Steam would curl from our noses and mouth
Every time we would open our mouths to talk

I smile as I think of those times long ago
Of the kind of things we would have to play
Computers weren’t even known back then
A homemade checkerboard passed our day

With white buttons for red, dark ones for black
We enjoyed as much as a store bought one
Back then we found so many games to play
Each one was bound to bring us kids some fun.
