Poet's Platform Column | 26 June 08

The world lost an inspirational poet with the passing this month of Alberta Schweinsberg.  Alberta was a regular contributor to Poets Platform for many years and although I never had the privilege of meeting her in person, I have enjoyed the Poetry, letters and cd’s of poetry she sent my way.  The poetry world and myself will miss her optimism and true messages about God.

Keep On, Keeping On

Put your hand to the plow,
Never look back,
God will be with you,
To keep you on track.

In times of trouble,
He’ll be there,
He’ll see you through,
For you He does care.

So keep right on,
Never give up in despair,
Get on your knees,
Say a little prayer.

Can’t

Can’t, never got anywhere,
Why? Because he didn’t care,
Never tried anything new,
Was afraid he couldn’t
Make it through.
Wouldn’t take a step forward,
Didn’t want to change his mind,
So he went on using any excuse
That he could find.
Can’t never did get anywhere,
But after all,
He just didn’t care.

Oh, To Be Like The Birds

They have no fear as they glide
Through the air,
No worry about food,
God supplies their need,
For them He does care.
He shelters them in the trees,
On Him they do depend,
He made them all,
He’s their friend.
He sees each little sparrow that falls,
Knows them all by name,
How much more He loves us,
His children,
He loves us all the same.
As He provides for us each day,
How glad we should be
That He came our way.
May we praise Him each day
As He helps us on our way.

Years

Seems our years go so quickly by,
My! Oh how time does fly!
When we are young,
We dress up, try to look old,
Want to be like others,
Act real bold.

Then with the passing of time,
One day we look in the mirror and think,
Who’s that?
Surely it’s not that teen-age brat.

So as I beheld my wrinkled brow,
And hair so white,
I just went on to bed,
And turned out the light.

Where did those years go?
