Summer
Forgetting all the days gone by,
It’s time to look up to the sky,
And thank God that once more we
Can work at things that need must be.
Plowing, planting, mending things,
All the chores that summer brings.
Now we have some time for play,
Upon a lazy summer’s day,
Take off our shoes and feel warm ground,
Enjoying nature’s delightful sound.
Down the lane we stroll along,
Whistling our favorite song.
We stop beside the swimming hole,
A cool dip revives the soul.
A picnic on a meadow green,
‘neath trees in shade,
we are serene.
Free to dream and feel alive,
Thankful for what God provides.

Sweet Smells Of Summer
Today I stood beside the old barn door
And whiffed the smell of cows inside
The odor that assailed my nose
Brought memories of farm life long age.
To smell fresh hay and cattle feed
And hear soft moos and chewing cuds,
As gentle fingers milked each one
Of foaming cream in metal pails.
Oh, how I long to once again sneak back
To times of happy summer days,
And watch my grandma milk those cows
And shoot it in mouths of hungry cats.
