New Resolutions
Walking by faith at the midnight hour,
Reminiscent of the year just passed;
Oh, that this year will find me committed,
To life-changing resolutions that last.
Many times I've started over,
Failing, falling, ever so abrupt,
Now my goals include God's counsel.
He helps me stand and never give up.
He provides the power needed,
To persevere just for today.
I can keep His resolutions,
For He guides and cheers me all the way.

My Worst Christmas Present
There were always silver bells
and mistletoe,
hot apple cider and candlelight.
You hid presents in the drawers
of my new file cabinet.
The tree stayed in the attic
this Christmas,
And carols were piped
through hospital speakers
You lay sterile and clean,
enveloped in white,
as fever took control.
I was the stranger in the corner chair
who changed your Attends,
swabbed your dry mouth
with a wet sponge on a pop cycle stick.
The one who kept the phantoms away.

I’ll Chase The Spring
Ah, my Father
Wraps His arms so strong
Around my fearful self
I hardly have a word inside
To summon how I feel.
I know one thing:
My God is real!
He’s my delight forevermore.
When Winter’s gone
I’ll chase the Spring
I missed while grieving
And enjoy a double blessing
As the two fuse fast
Within my being.
